Selected Latvian Birch Logs: The Foundation of Our 100% Birch Plywood

Selected Latvian Birch Logs for 100% Birch Plywood | 58Northwood
October 25, 2026

From carefully selected birch logs to in-house rotary-peeled core veneers, 58Northwood focuses on raw material selection and production control to manufacture 100% Birch Plywood in Latvia.

At SIA “58Northwood”, we believe that quality birch plywood begins long before the first panel comes off the production line. It begins with the selection of the right raw material.

Located in Latvia, Europe, our factory is developing an integrated manufacturing process for 100% Birch Plywood, combining carefully selected Latvian birch logs, in-house veneer production and controlled plywood manufacturing.

Our main product grades include BB/BB, B/BB and BB/CP, designed to meet different surface appearance requirements and end-use applications.

1. Carefully Selected Latvian Birch Logs

The quality of plywood starts with the quality of the wood.

We carefully select Latvian birch logs suitable for rotary peeling and plywood production. Raw material selection is an important first step in achieving consistent veneer quality and reliable finished panels.

Before processing, birch logs are assessed for relevant characteristics, including dimensions, wood condition and suitability for veneer production.

Our objective is to make better use of suitable birch resources while maintaining a clear focus on the quality requirements of professional plywood buyers.

For us, raw material selection is not simply about purchasing timber. It is the first stage of manufacturing quality.

2. In-House Rotary Peeling: Producing Our Own Birch Core Veneers

Rather than relying entirely on externally purchased core veneers, we produce the birch core veneers used in our plywood manufacturing process through our own rotary peeling line.

Selected birch logs are prepared and processed through rotary peeling equipment to produce thin birch veneer sheets.

The resulting veneers are then prepared for subsequent manufacturing stages, including drying, grading and panel assembly.

Producing core veneers in-house allows us to maintain closer control over an important part of the plywood structure.

Key production considerations include:

  • Veneer thickness and dimensional consistency
  • Veneer condition and visible defects
  • Moisture control before panel assembly
  • Veneer grading and material utilization
  • Consistency of the plywood’s internal construction

Our principle is simple: better control of the raw material and veneer production process provides a stronger foundation for consistent finished plywood.

3. From Birch Veneer to Finished 100% Birch Plywood

Our manufacturing process is designed to connect the main stages of production within one factory operation.

The production sequence includes:

Latvian Birch Logs → Rotary Peeling → Veneer Drying → Veneer Grading → Glue Application → Cross-Grain Lay-Up → Pressing → Trimming and Sanding → Final Inspection → Packing

At each stage, production parameters and material quality influence the finished panel.

Veneers are dried and prepared before assembly. Selected layers are arranged with alternating grain directions and bonded according to the specified plywood construction and adhesive system. The panels then proceed through pressing, dimensional processing, surface sanding and final inspection.

Our integrated manufacturing approach is intended to improve production control, product consistency and communication with customers.

4. Our Main Product Grades: BB/BB, B/BB and BB/CP

Different customers have different requirements for plywood surface appearance. Our principal grades address several common purchasing needs.

BB/BB Birch Plywood

Suitable for buyers requiring a relatively consistent appearance on both faces, subject to the agreed grading specification.

B/BB Birch Plywood

Designed for applications where a higher-grade B face is required on one side and a BB-grade face on the reverse.

BB/CP Birch Plywood

An option for customers who require a BB-grade face on one side and a CP-grade reverse, according to the agreed quality standard.

Actual appearance, allowable defects, thickness, bonding requirements and other technical parameters should be confirmed in the product specification before ordering.

We welcome enquiries from plywood importers, distributors, furniture manufacturers, construction suppliers and industrial users seeking a direct manufacturing partner in Europe.

5. Why Raw Material and Manufacturing Transparency Matter

For professional buyers, choosing a plywood supplier involves more than comparing prices.

Buyers also need to understand where the raw materials come from, how the veneers are produced, how the panels are manufactured and how finished products are inspected.

At 58Northwood, we aim to provide a clearer view of these manufacturing stages, from selected Latvian birch logs to finished plywood panels.

Our factory in Latvia is developing its production capabilities with a focus on 100% Birch Plywood and long-term cooperation with international customers.

We believe that transparent communication, clear product specifications and direct factory discussions are essential foundations for reliable business relationships.
