At 58Northwood in Latvia, our birch plywood manufacturing journey continues with an important stage: rotary peeling birch logs into veneer for plywood production.
Birch veneer plays a central role in plywood construction. Depending on its intended use, veneer can be prepared for the inner layers of a panel or selected for the face and back surfaces.
Core veneer and face veneer serve different purposes. Core veneer contributes to the panel’s internal construction, while face and back veneers influence the visible surface appearance and the final panel’s suitability for different applications.
Producing these veneers requires attention to veneer thickness, surface condition, handling and preparation. These details matter because the quality of the finished plywood begins well before the panel reaches the pressing stage.
At our Latvian factory, we are progressing through trial production and developing the manufacturing processes needed for our planned 100% birch plywood range.
There is still work to do as we refine the production process and establish our quality control procedures. We believe that sharing these stages honestly is an important part of building long-term relationships with our future customers.
For us, every stage — from the birch log to the veneer sheet — is part of the journey towards finished plywood panels.
We look forward to sharing more updates from our factory in Latvia as the work progresses.
